Mr. Eifman takes considerable liberties with the life story of Olga Spessivtseva, the Russian ballerina who became a legend during her years with the Mariinsky, which she left in 1918 to dance for Serge Diaghilev in the West. Nina Zmievets is appropriately delicate but a mite too mopey in the title role, in a lead cast completed by Oleg Markov as a dictatorial ballet teacher.

Meet a Dancer: Andreea Olteanu was born in Bucharest, Romania and joined The National Ballet of Canada as a RBC Apprentice in 1998 becoming a member of the Corps de Ballet in 1999.
Meet a Dancer: Principal Dancer Xiao Nan Yu was born in Dalian, China and joined The National Ballet of Canada in 1996. Catch Nan onstage during the 2015/16 season which opens with the North American premiere of The Winter’s Tale.
